Albanian efforts towards European integration

The process of EU integration for the Western Balkans and its ongoing discourse has remarkably improved the overall political situation in this region and has immensely contributed to the ease of the relations between countries. It is comprehensively understood and accepted that the European Integration is the main driving force to state-building and regional cooperation. It is not only instrumental to reconciliation and mutual trust amongst our nations, but also to the consolidation of democracy, rule of law, regional stability, peace and security. Strengthening regional cooperation represents an essential element of the integration process of the Western Balkans into the European Union. Cooperation, connecting and integration in relevant sectoral policies (energy, transport, trade, etc.) should lead to the creation of a positive political climate in the region. The European perspective is a key driver of transformation in the region and thus enhances our collective integration, security, prosperity and social wellbeing. It remains essential for fostering reconciliation and stability. One must also not forget that the reforms that are required in order to prepare the Western Balkan countries for their accession require patience and perseverance, as well as ownership of these reforms by both the governments and the citizens is essential.
