Complete regression of keratoacanthoma with topical tazarotene gel 0.1%: therapeutic and pathophysiological perspectives

Keratoacanthoma (KA) is a low-grade keratinocytic tumor, usually involving sun-exposed areas. The pathogenesis of KA is not completely understood, although it has been assumed that the lesion derived from the hair follicle and that several chemical and non-chemical factors, including trauma and immunosuppression, could play a pivotal role.A wait-and-see strategy for a single KA is questionable, unless signs of involution are already present.1 Indeed, it is difficult to predict the final size of a KA, because KA can reach several centimeters before involution, sometimes producing disfiguring scar.
