Considerazioni sul tema della facciata, tra linguaggio e tecnologie nella produzione contemporanea. Surveying the façade, between language and technology in contemporary production

We are crossing a phase, in which the design of artifacts is more oriented to an individual empathy, rather than on collective values. The contribution investigates the relationship between construction and language in the contemporary facade: this “manifest” of the building on the outside and element which catalyze the empathic interaction with people, acquires new and old meanings in the most recent architecture. Once we recognize the necessary "semperian" separation between the structure and the envelope, as an unavoidable datum, we observe that the elements of representation seem to acquire ever more importance, as in the façade as more generally in the surface of the artifacts. In recent years, the theme of sustainability also became the object of more or less explicit representation and communication, involving the decoration and language of buildings and artefacts in a variety of ways. The text expresses an attempt to outline some recurrent conditions, in which the relationship between construction and language seek a permanence of architecture, rather than its evanescence. This happens through some design expedients that renew, without nostalgia, some "original" themes of urban architecture, also through the updating of the tectonic role of the facades, These conditions are recognizable in the design of artefacts and architectures not so much when they define new infrastructures in the expanding eastern cities, but especially in the episodes of stratification in and over the cities and on the already built heritage. These are many themes for formal investigation and for technological innovation in the construction industry.

All’interno di una fase in cui il progetto dei prodotti- dall’architettura all’industria- si confronta in modo sempre più evidente con l’obiettivo di un’empatia individuale, piuttosto che su valori collettivi, il contributo indaga il rapporto tra costruzione e linguaggio nella facciata contemporanea: questo elemento di ‘manifestazione’ dell’edificio all’esterno e di interazione empatica con le persone, si carica di nuovi e vecchi significati nell’architettura più recente. Accettata una sua necessaria separazione “semperiana” dalla struttura come dato imprescindibile, sulla facciata, e più in generale sulla superficie dell’architettura, sembrano acquisire sempre maggiore rilevanza gli elementi di rappresentazione. Negli ultimi anni anche il tema della sostenibilità è divenuto oggetto di rappresentazione e comunicazione più o meno esplicita, coinvolgendo con modalità molteplici la decorazione e sia linguaggio degli edifici e che dei prodotti industriali. Il testo esprime un tentativo tratteggiare alcune condizioni ricorrenti, in cui il rapporto tra costruzione e linguaggio assume contenuti che rimandano a una permanenza dell’architettura, piuttosto che a una sua evanescenza. Ciò avviene attraverso alcuni espedienti progettuali che, anche attraverso l’aggiornamento del ruolo tettonico delle facciate, rinnovano, senza nostalgia, temi alcuni “originari” dell’architettura urbana. Queste condizioni sono riconoscibili, non tanto quando si compiono nuove infrastrutture nelle città in espansione, quanto soprattutto negli episodi di stratificazione dentro e sopra le città e sul patrimonio già costruito, costituendo quindi altrettanti temi di indagine formale e di innovazione tecnologica nell’industria delle costruzioni.
