The Fiumicino power plant, located near Rome and designed by the Italian engineer Riccardo Morandi in 1956, represents a relevant example of XXth century production facility that calls for protection and cultural promotion. This work aims at studying the main features of the building and understanding the design approach used by Morandi, which have led him to blend architecture, space and structure in a very distinctive manner. The work is based on original drawings research, architectural survey and technical analysis of the building. The deep meaning of modernity has been pointed out, in order to favour the debate on the industrial heritage and aware of the importance to protect and promote the restoration of this kind of buildings.
