The last two Presidents of the United States of America, the Democratic Barack Obama and the Republican Donald J. Trump, certainly are characterized by the contents of their messages, result of specific and different political choices. For this reason, with reference to the theory of speech acts, the aim of this work is carry out a textual analysis of the official speeches of the two Presidents produced during the inauguration speech at the White House (respectively, 20th January 2009 and 20th January 2017) and the first month of their mandate (from 24th January to 24th February, both in 2009 and 2017), moment when the two Presidents present themselves and their presidential objectives to their electorate. The material will be analyzed with T-LAB: this software, in fact, using both linguistic and graphic techniques, allows to perform a statistical analysis of the textual data and to produce outputs that represent different relationships between the data.
