School-based addiction primary prevention programmes were reviewed. Programs were divided into four main models: information, health promotion, competence and peer education. To make order among the great number of the implemented interventions was the first aim; the second one was to form a thinking starting point for the future, to build effective programs. This survey showed that after a long time of programmes' implementation we have not found yet a really widely accepted model of prevention and it also evidenced the need of a methodological revision of the adopted preventive measures.

Abstract

School-based addiction primary prevention programmes were reviewed. Programs were divided into four main models: information, health promotion, competence and peer education. To make order among the great number of the implemented interventions was the first aim; the second one was to form a thinking starting point for the future, to build effective programs. This survey showed that after a long time of programmes' implementation we have not found yet a really widely accepted model of prevention and it also evidenced the need of a methodological revision of the adopted preventive measures.
