Abstract

In Cratin. (Odyss.) fr. 150,2 K.-A., Polyphemus threatens that he will cook Odysseus and his crew. Athenaeus, his Epitome and Pollux transmit this line in three different versions; in addition, some modern scholars also have emended it. This paper argues for the Epitome’s text, since its paraepic and paratragic implications correspond to the refined and elegant style of comic-Polyphemus.
