Bologna, Firenze, Lucca: il recupero delle manifatture tabacchi, da poli produttivi a tessuti urbani

Tobacco manufacturers represent an interesting case of industrial heritage, because of their unique typological urban composition and recognition. This paper presents three cases, though different in characteristics, localisation and function, which illustrate some aspects of the role of the re-use and the implementation of proper preservation principles of historical-artistic heritage. New urban fabrics characters are analyzed with respect to their potential and various problems in terms of material recovery, typology and identity. In addition, the article opens with a very much broader investigation of the future of this particular architectural heritage that fits like new item inside the city.
