The antibacterial activity of cefotetan compared with that of ampicillin, cephaloridine, cefotaxime, cefuroxime and cefoxitin was determined against 109 recent clinical isolates of Gram positive and Gram-negative bacteria .The antibacterial activity was evaluated by the MIC (minimum inhibitory concentration) and MBC (minimum bactericidal concentration) in agar. Moreover stability of the quoted B-lactam agents to hydrolysis by some B-lactamases of various origin was compared. Antibacterial activity of cefotetan was shown to be bactericidal, with a high activity against Escherichia coli, Enterobacter and Proteus spp.furthermore, cefotetan was shown to be highly stable to beta-lactamases of various origin.
