Thermal spray is a coating technique that allows to deposit different types of materials in the form of molten or semi-molten droplets on various substrates. Near net shape components can also be formed. Thermal spray processes for the production of ceramic and cermet coatings are outlined, with special attention to D-gun, HVOF and Plasma Spray techniques. The typical morphological features of the deposits are correlated with the properties of coated components. Consolidated and novel applications of ceramic thermal sprayed coatings are resumed, starting from wear and corrosion resistant coatings, to thermal barriers, insulating coatings and bioactive deposits for biomedical implants.

Abstract
Thermal spray is a coating technique that allows to deposit different types of materials in the form of molten or semi-molten droplets on various substrates. Near net shape components can also be formed. Thermal spray processes for the production of ceramic and cermet coatings are outlined, with special attention to D-gun, HVOF and Plasma Spray techniques. The typical morphological features of the deposits are correlated with the properties of coated components. Consolidated and novel applications of ceramic thermal sprayed coatings are resumed, starting from wear and corrosion resistant coatings, to thermal barriers, insulating coatings and bioactive deposits for biomedical implants.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
