Abstract
The excavation of the so-called Nimphaeum Block continued towards the E and brought to light a series of funerary and honorary buildings dating back to the early Imperial age. These buildings monumentalize the area on the N of the stadium with which they were in visual contact before the construction of the temple of the Antonines. These are important elements of a monumental district including the gymnasium, the stadium and the sacred area of the Pythion. To the E of the Mausoleums is a monumental Byzantine building with a big hall and a pavement of large stone slabs. Its construction did not compromise the area of the Mausoleums, which seems to have remained free, even if here the levels are higher than structures of the Byzantine period. In this area excavations uncovered a series of further phases until the construction of a productive area of the same period of those found in the Secretarium further W after its defunctionalisation. The preliminary analysis of pottery attests the partial use of the area until the late 15th century AD.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
