A passage by Philostratus underlines the presence of the urban residences of the sophist Herodes Atticus near the theatre of Dionysos at Athens. Focussing on the topography of the residential area on the south slope of the Acropolis allowed us to reconstruct important evidence for Roman-period complexes: some planimetric correspondences and the finding of a portrait head of Polydeukion seem to confirm the presence in this area of the famous family of the Claudii Attici.

Abstract
A passage by Philostratus underlines the presence of the urban residences of the sophist Herodes Atticus near the theatre of Dionysos at Athens. Focussing on the topography of the residential area on the south slope of the Acropolis allowed us to reconstruct important evidence for Roman-period complexes: some planimetric correspondences and the finding of a portrait head of Polydeukion seem to confirm the presence in this area of the famous family of the Claudii Attici.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
