Vero, verosimile, immaginario: archivi e archivisti e letteratura

Archives and archivists, although they are places and figures unknown to most, often appear in fictional, filmic and musical narratives. Their descriptionis often functional to the development of the plot as it happens in the yellow and noir books and movies. Sometimes the archive serves, instead, simply as a background or a ploy to start the story or to give it a background of historical truth: some examples are the statements made by Manzoni on the research carried out on the documents of the Seventeenth Century to narrate the events of I promessi sposi and the archives ‘invented’ by Camilleri for the construction of the plot of his historical novels. Archives, dirty places, dark, dusty, are also used as ‘punitive’ places where unfortunate or recommended or unruly employees are placed, for example, in Totò and the kings of Rome, in the Viceroys or in The archivist. This work aims to investigate how archives and archivists are treated and described in the different literary styles and on the various means of communication up to their representation on social networks.

Archivi ed archivisti, benché siano luoghi e figure sconosciuti ai più, spesso compaiono nella narrativa, nei film e nella musica. La loro descrizione è spesso funzionale allo sviluppo della trama come succede nei libri e nei film gialli e noir. A volte l’archivio serve, invece, semplicemente da sfondo o da escamotage per iniziare la storia o per darle un fondo di verità storica: basta pensare ad esempio alle affermazioni fatte da Manzoni sulle ricerche svolte sui documenti del XVII secolo per narrare le vicende de I promessi sposi o agli archivi ‘inventati’ da Camilleri per la costruzione della trama dei suoi romanzi storici. Gli archivi, luoghi sporchi, bui, polverosi, sono usati anche come luoghi ‘punitivi’ in cui vengono collocati dipendenti sfortunati o raccomandati o ancora indisciplinati: succede, ad esempio, in Totò e i re di Roma, nei Viceré o ne L’archivista. Questo lavoro si propone di indagare come archivi e archivisti vengono trattati e descritti nei diversi stili letterari e sui diversi mezzi di comunicazione fino ad arrivare alla loro rappresentazione sui social network.
