Playground of society. Uno strumento sostenibile di riqualificazione integrata.

The most recent experiences in the public space construction, far away from the modernist vision linked to the functional city model, outline the strategic position of this action both in the development of territorial transformations and in the definition of a new quality of contemporary living, in promoting socio-economic recovery, social cohesion and collective identity. Public space is the place of social relations and expression of evolving identity, a “Playground of Society” meant as the place where, in the design of the city, the main human attitudes are manifested. Re-qualifying the city starting from the public space is the greatest challenge of the Contemporary for the social sustainability. The investigated experiences bring out the multi-disciplinary spirit of this space and its related project, which is by its nature "open, shared and shareable";. Future scenarios focus the debate on the active public space: namely how the technologies can contribute to improving the existing one in relation to the design and to use of it as well as to encourage creativity, interchange and citizen participation, and realize the transformation of static into dynamic spaces that can best meet the needs of both urban area and local communities.
