Abstract

The problem of pressure oscillations, occurring during the quasi-steady state of aft-finocyl solid rocket motors, is investigated by using the Q1D model AGAR (Aerodynamically Generated Acoustic Resonance) developed and validated at DIMA - Dept. of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering of Sapienza, University of Rome. The Q1D approach presents several advantages with respect to full 3D simulations, such as a better understanding of pressure oscillations driving mechanism and the remarkable computational costs reduction. The paper aims to show how AGAR works by means of the analysis of a reference test case flowfield. In particular, the first stage of VEGA launcher, P80, is chosen.
