The public debate on female prostitution and the number of studies bringing together public attitudes toward the phenomenon have increased in the last years all‘over Europe. Feminisms debate on the issue proliferated too. In this paper I review researches into public opinion about regulating, liberalizing or banning female prostitution and the eventual paralleling with feminist perspectives. I conclude that public opinion cannot be traced back to feminist theories.

Abstract

The public debate on female prostitution and the number of studies bringing together public attitudes toward the phenomenon have increased in the last years all‘over Europe. Feminisms debate on the issue proliferated too. In this paper I review researches into public opinion about regulating, liberalizing or banning female prostitution and the eventual paralleling with feminist perspectives. I conclude that public opinion cannot be traced back to feminist theories.
