Between 1970 and 1997,136 children with amblyopia were treated at the centre of Physiopathology of Ocular Motility, University of Rome. Their age ranged from 6 to 13 years. Of the 136 studied patients, '17 werc affected by strabismus amblyopia, 57 by anisometropic amblyopia and 2 by deprivation form. Initially, visual acuities were between 3/50 and 8/10 for all groups. Authors have studied only patients who had been submitted to antiamblyopic therapy for at least 4 years. Children were treated with full-time or part-time, which involved patching of the good eye. Authors stress the importance of patients compliance and the effectiveness of occlusion therapy in children more than 6 years old.
