Purpose – The main purpose of this paper is to provide a contribution on Knowledge Transfer (KT) and organizational performance and business process, including researches presented in this special issue of the Business Process Management Journal. Design/methodology/approach – This paper is based on some main reflections on KT, organizational performance and business process emphasizing past, present and future trends of research also in the light of author’s reflections of the paper presented in this special issue. Findings – Results points out the open debate on KT, organizational performance and business process in the worldwide context proposing the future investigation of impacts of the Internet of Things (IoT), Artificial Intelligence, Big Data, Analytics, Cyber-security, Simulations and Digital Integrations and overall Industry 4.0 environments on KT. Originality/value – KT, organizational performance and business process topics are presented providing a profitable background in the field.

Abstract
