Apianus e le volvelle del cielo

The paper analyzes the Cosmographicus liber (1524) of the German mathematician and cosmographer Petrus Apianus: an innovative work in the astronomical, geographical and cartographic studies of the sixteenth century, also due to the presence of some mobile devices consisting of volvelles. In addition to reconstructing the context of Mayan studies in which Apianus operated, the essay describes the para-textual function and the functioning of the astronomical instruments incorporated in the book.

Il contributo analizza il Cosmographicus liber (1524) del matematico e cosmografo tedesco Petrus Apianus: un’opera innovativa nell’ambito degli studi astronomici, geografici e cartografici del Cinquecento, anche per la presenza di alcuni dispositivi mobili costititi da volvelle. Oltre a ricostruire il contesto di studi maytematici nel quale operò Apooanus, il saggio descrive la funzione paratestuale e ilm funzionamento degli strumenti astronomici incorporati nel libro.
