Retracing the history of the City Walls of Orbetello through drawing and survey allows you to better appreciate their structure, dimensions and shape and to acquire awareness through careful analysis of the elements of detail, and the different materials from which the city walls are built. It also leads to a direct confrontation with their state of conservation in order to think about their management and, above all, their valorisation. Orbetello is a Tuscan town near the city of Grosseto located on the Lagoon. The oldest part of the town is surrounded by an articulated system of walls that constitutes the defensive network of the town. The fortified walls, dating back to the late Renaissance, is elliptical in shape and opens onto the lagoon towards Monte Argentario. The walls are bastioned in the form of an escarpment sometimes covered with plaster. These walls, built on water, are perhaps the only ones of this kind in the whole Mediterranean and descend for about six meters below the current level of the road. This interesting heritage, that characterizes and makes the town recognizable, has generated many investigations and studies. This article aims to record, through drawings and general and detailed information, these fortifications that contribute to defining the cultural identity of the place.
Ripercorrere la storia delle mura cittadine di Orbetello attraverso il disegno e il rilievo consente di apprezzarne meglio la struttura, le dimensioni e la forma e di acquisire consapevolezza attraverso un'attenta analisi degli elementi di dettaglio e dei diversi materiali da cui sono costruite le mura cittadine. Porta anche ad un confronto diretto con il loro stato di conservazione al fine di pensare alla loro gestione e, soprattutto, alla loro valorizzazione. Orbetello è una città toscana vicino alla città di Grosseto situata sulla laguna. La parte più antica della città è circondata da un articolato sistema di mura che costituisce la rete difensiva della città. Le mura fortificate, risalenti al tardo Rinascimento, sono di forma ellittica e si aprono sulla laguna verso il Monte Argentario. Le pareti sono bastionate sotto forma di una scarpata a volte ricoperta di intonaco. Queste mura, costruite sull'acqua, sono forse le uniche di questo tipo in tutto il Mediterraneo e scendono per circa sei metri sotto il livello attuale della strada. Questo interessante patrimonio, che caratterizza e rende riconoscibile la città, ha generato molte ricerche e studi. Questo articolo mira a registrare, attraverso disegni e informazioni generali e dettagliate, queste particolari fortificazioni che contribuiscono a definire l'identità culturale del luogo.
