The Mediterranean is a geopolitical space with peculiar characteristics where it develops and draws strength from the comparison between the different cultures that find its dimension within its shores and in its waters. This centrality is now increasingly questioned by the emergence of new actors and geopolitical spaces whose dynamism is a fertile ground for the development of cultures with a universal vocation. In spite of its peculiarity, the dynamics of the Mediterranean space is, in fact, conditioned by the different geopolitical perspectives of the actors that operate there, as well as by the relationship with the neighbouring spaces and with the global problems that manifest themselves. However, the Mediterranean finds its universal vocation in its intrinsic nature as a factor of synthesis between different cultures. From this perspective, his ability to connect peoples and peoples of different religions and cultures can lead to the development of a model of governance of the complex phenomena that characterize globalization. Model that finds its founding elements in the cities and their relationships. In a global context where geopolitical spaces acquire value as a function of their ability to connect ever wider and more technological spaces and nuclei, while the great state actors find difficulty in defining affirm and protect their national interests, the cities return to regain possession of role of geopolitical actor always played. A solid network of relations between cities can, therefore, contribute to rebuilding that common social and economic fabric on which to rebuild an idea of freedom of the person who has a universal projection. The present paper therefore intends to highlight the role that the Mediterranean cities can play in reacquiring this fundamental role of the resurgent source of world civilization to this geopolitical space.
