This paper presents a new approach about safety in tunnel that exploits innovative technologies to have accurate information in tunnel about safety system, traffic and environmental conditions in order to manage operational or additional measures. The technological innovation allows reaching high levels of safety through low costs knowing in real time, what happens inside the tunnel (environmental conditions, traffic data and system status). With a new layout of a SCADA (Supervisory Control And Data Acquisition) system able to do a Dynamic Risk Analysis to evaluate real time safety in tunnel is possible to focuses the tunnel management on users’ safety. If the calculated risk is low is possible to allow the energy saving mode of lighting or ventilation system and if the evaluated risk isn’t tolerable is possible to apply additional or operational measures to ensure the safety required at any time. The proposed systems, described focusing on a road tunnel is also suitable to rail tunnel and subways.
