The interpretation and transformation proposal on the mexican urban fabric of San Martin de las Flores in San Pedro de Tlaquepaque, Guadalajara, Jalisco-Mexico, elaborated during the TAU 2016 - Taller Internacional de Arquitectura y Urbanism Ciudad Cercana - San Pedro Tlaquepaque (organised by INTHAB - Instituto Tecnologico del Habitat in collaboration with Universidad Politecnica de Valencia and ISUFh) is the subject of this article. It is presented here as a case of study about the importance of routes and pertinence strip analysis in the interpretation and design of urban built environment.
The article focuses on the presentation of the interpretation of the formative process of the settlement and on the presentation of a transformation proposal at the different scales. In the processual design philosophy, according to which interpretation and design tend to coincide, the interpretation of San Martin’s environnement is a critical analysis of the built reality that tends to operability, already contains the future transformation. The design process is an 'in vitro' re-activation of the formative / transformative process read on the living body of the city, in the architect / morphologist's laboratory.
The specialisation at all the scales, as a response to the lack of hierarchy in a very homogeneous environnement, is the goal of the transformation proposal: in the territory through a specialised ‘backbone’ of equipments, at the urban fabric scale by knotting and specialising for the collective use an urban block, at the building scale by transforming and updating the current residential typology.
