the population with cleft lip and palate has a typical dysarmonic configuration of the face , which is more or less evident during the growth. this longitudinal study conributed to show how and when these disarmonic fetures appear, in order to permit more cooperation among the team of specialist who perform the treatment. The aim is to have at the end of the growth the best result as harmonious facial feature. 38 caucasian patients with unilateral cleft lip and palate, who had undergone to the same kind of therapy, documented by records to childhood to the end of puberty, have been selected. Cephalomentric analisys form the latero lateral radiographs for soft and hard tissues and a study of the facial harmony have been made and the population has been divided into three groups, according to the developmental stage. stage. The results showed a disarmonic feature, which started during puberty, due to an important occlusal instability. In conclusion, the orthodontic therapy must stimulate the maxillary growth but also stabilise the occlusion during ali the time of growth, in order to guarantee the control of the periferic comparator on the face development.
