This paper reports a study on children affected by cleft lip and palate during a medical mission. Height and weight were recorded and a comparison was made between the study group and the national growth tables of the normal Filipino population of the same age and sex. &7% of the sample population resulted under the 10th percentile of weight, no differences were recorded with the height paprameters. We conclude that feeding problems that are virtually negligible in the Western world can influence growth in every type of cleft, in areas where it is not possible to consult a dietician or food supplements are scarce.

Abstract
This paper reports a study on children affected by cleft lip and palate during a medical mission. Height and weight were recorded and a comparison was made between the study group and the national growth tables of the normal Filipino population of the same age and sex. &7% of the sample population resulted under the 10th percentile of weight, no differences were recorded with the height paprameters. We conclude that feeding problems that are virtually negligible in the Western world can influence growth in every type of cleft, in areas where it is not possible to consult a dietician or food supplements are scarce.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
