Sleep problems, particularly insomnia, are highly prevalent in children with ASD. The clinician assessing a child with ASD should carefully screen for sleep disorders and make referrals as indicated. Fortunately, there are a variety of treatments available, including behavioral interventions and pharmacotherapy. Identifying and treatingsleep disorders may not only result in improved sleep but also favorably affect daytimebehavior and family functioning.
