The Subequana valley is one of the easternmost depression of the central Apennines. It is located south of the L’Aquila and Fossa-San Demetrio basins. The formation and evolution of the Subequana valley has been conditioned by the activity of a 8-10- km long, NW-SE trending and SW dipping normal fault system that affects the SW slopes of Mt. Urano which bounds the depression to NE. The fault system, characterised by a complex structural evolution, has been responsible for the displacement of continental deposits spanning the whole Quaternary (MICCADEI et alii, 1997).

Abstract

The Subequana valley is one of the easternmost depression of the central Apennines. It is located south of the L’Aquila and Fossa-San Demetrio basins. The formation and evolution of the Subequana valley has been conditioned by the activity of a 8-10- km long, NW-SE trending and SW dipping normal fault system that affects the SW slopes of Mt. Urano which bounds the depression to NE. The fault system, characterised by a complex structural evolution, has been responsible for the displacement of continental deposits spanning the whole Quaternary (MICCADEI et alii, 1997).
