Starting from a recent book by Jean-Louis Ferrary, the author tries to investigate the debate about democracy in the Hellenistic Age and in the first century of theRoman Empire; in the second part of the paper, he analyses the aims of Polybius’s Histories and the meaning of his adoption of the themes of Roman self-representation.
A partire da un recente volume di Jean-Louis Ferrary, ci si interroga sul dibattito intorno alla democrazia durante l’età ellenistica e nel primo secolo dell’impero; quindi, si affronta il problema degli obiettivi perseguiti da Polibio attraverso le Storie e del carattere della sua adesione ai motivi dell’autorappresentazione romana.
