Between January 2001 and June 2006, 16 patients were referred for treatment to our Department with diagnosis of malignant stricture of the antro-pyloric tract presenting at an advanced unresectable stage (peritoneal carcinomatosis, distant metastases). In all cases, a covered self-expanding metallic stent was passed through the stricture. Endoscopically placed metal stents represent a minimally invasive and well-tolerated procedure which avoids patient discomfort related to general anesthesia, naso-gastric tube and laparotomy. Furthermore, the use of SEMS has been associated with significant advantages in terms of restoration of oral intake, operative time and hospital stay.

Abstract
Between January 2001 and June 2006, 16 patients were referred for treatment to our Department with diagnosis of malignant stricture of the antro-pyloric tract presenting at an advanced unresectable stage (peritoneal carcinomatosis, distant metastases). In all cases, a covered self-expanding metallic stent was passed through the stricture. Endoscopically placed metal stents represent a minimally invasive and well-tolerated procedure which avoids patient discomfort related to general anesthesia, naso-gastric tube and laparotomy. Furthermore, the use of SEMS has been associated with significant advantages in terms of restoration of oral intake, operative time and hospital stay.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
