Trickle Painted Ware, generally considered a decorated variant of Simple Ware attested during the Early Bronze IV period (2300-2000 BC) in Palestine and Transjordan, may be instead treated as a specialized painted pottery production, as shown by the association of wares, limited typological range of vessels, fine manufacture, and decoration. Its frequency in burial assemblages suggests that such vessels should be regarded as luxury items or prestige goods to be displayed in funerary contexts. Moreover, the possibility to restrict this ware type’s area of production to the north-central Jordan Valley allows us to trace the circulation of these vessels outside this area and thereby infer the existence of meaningful networks of exchange.
