Shifting Minorities. Integration Strategies between Romans and Barbarians between 5th and 6th century

Between the end of 4th and the end of 6th centuries, the Western part of Roman Empire collapsed under the pressure of migratory waves, leaving room for the establishment of the Roman-Barbaric kingdoms. It is a deep institutional, cultural and religious transformation, that forced new hybrid communities to redefine their religious identities and develop new processes of integration and acculturation, where the minority in charge was actually dominated by the ideology typical of the militarily subdued but culturally successful group.

Fra la fine del IV secolo e la fine del VI la parte occidentale dell’Impero si dissolse sotto la pressione delle ondate migratorie, lasciando il posto alla costituzione dei regni romano-barbarici. Si tratta di una trasformazione pro- fonda, istituzionale, culturale e religiosa, che costrinse le nuove comunità ibride a ridefinire la loro identità e ad elaborare nuovi processi di integrazione e di acculturazione, ove spesso la minoranza al potere era in realtà dominata dall’ideologia del gruppo sottomesso militarmente ma culturalmente vincente.
