The hallmark of political and religious values given to Jupiter Latiaris can be highlighted in worship of monte Cavo. Within the celebration of feriae Latinae, and in community worship, it can identify the beginning of a shared ethnic and religious consciousness, which express itself in collective participation. The eminent position reached by Rome after the Latin War involves the assumption of new values, but ritual practice, repeated every year and focused on the division of sacrificial bull meat, keep on to transmit the same meanings. The annual rite establishes the right of communities to participate, to be members of a collective dimension that is realized within the sacral. It is in this light that the sacrificial rite can be understood as expression of ethnic solidarity. Considering the phenomenon in the long time, through the analysis of individual phases of rite and forms of participation in worship and ritual behavior, including human sacrificial practices, the study would like to propose broader and deeper interpretation of Latiar, a “lateral thinking” about the rite and its anthropological meaning. By focusing on “action semiotics” and “behavior semantics” it tried to give back a translation of religious, political and cultural meanings, underlying this peculiar sacral expression proper to the Roman-Latin world.

Abstract
By focusing on “action semiotics” and “behavior semantics” it tried to give back a translation of religious, political and cultural meanings, underlying this peculiar sacral expression proper to the Roman-Latin world.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
