This paper focuses on a disputed passage in Agathias’ Histories (2.15.7 Key- dell): through a review of previous scholarly debate and a fresh examination of a substantial part of the manuscript tradition, new evidence is offered in support of the reading pròs tòn nómon, which was already proposed by R. C. McCail in 1977.
