Patients presenting to Emergency Departments (EDs) with trauma benefit from FAST (Focused Assessment with Sonography in Trauma). This method is increasingly used even by not radiologists professionals, as well as by nurses who works in emergency settings. This review is aimed at evaluating the effectiveness of ultrasound FAST performed by nurses in emergencies department. The results show that the use of ultrasound FAST performed by trained nurses of a total of 800 ultrasound examinations the sensitivity achieved goes from 85.2% to 98%, while the specificity is from 93% to 99.4%. FAST performed by nursing staff is an important tool to give exactly the color code in the triage with a view to rapid intervention ensuring performance nursing suitable.
