The glassworts: research methods and taxonomic problems. The author reports the current taxonomic and floristic knowledges about the glassworts belonging to the genera Salicornia, Sarcocornia and Arthrocnemum (Chenopodiaceae). For each species the data are arranged as summarizing forms, reporting the main diagnostic traits, the phenology, the geographical arrangement and some floristic remarks with regards to the Italian territory. We provide as well a diagnostic key to the Italian species of Salicornia.
