The article fits in with the researches dedicated to analysing the Roman architectural elements reused in the reconstruction of the Basilica of Santa Maria in Trastevere by Pope Innocent II. The study proposes a chronological framework based on examination of the stylistic and typological characteristics of the ancient marbles reused as brackets in the entablature of the central nave of the church and those located on either side of the entrance portals. The observations made offer further food for thought about the spoliation of the monumental centre of ancient Rome and the choices made in the interest of Renovatio, which characterizes the achievements and decorative trends of the ecclesiastical buildings of the 12th century.

Abstract
The article fits in with the researches dedicated to analysing the Roman architectural elements reused in the reconstruction of the Basilica of Santa Maria in Trastevere by Pope Innocent II. The study proposes a chronological framework based on examination of the stylistic and typological characteristics of the ancient marbles reused as brackets in the entablature of the central nave of the church and those located on either side of the entrance portals. The observations made offer further food for thought about the spoliation of the monumental centre of ancient Rome and the choices made in the interest of Renovatio, which characterizes the achievements and decorative trends of the ecclesiastical buildings of the 12th century.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
