Nuovi mosaici adrianei dal Caseggiato delle due scale a Ostia

The Building of two staircases is a large commercial and residential building located in the south-e- astern part of the insula IV, ix of Ostia, in the area outside porta Marina. The current denomination is due to the researches of the Ostia Marina Project, an archaeological mission of the Department of History, Culture and Civilization of the University of Bologna. The Building, erected in the late Hadrianic age, shows many traces of restorations that document its continuity of use until the 5th century AD. The Ostia Marina Project led in 2016 to the discovery of some tessellated pavements relating to the Hadrianic phase in the southern area of the building. These are black-and-white geometric mosaics, based on a composition of rectangle and squares that originally covered a large corridor area.
