Per non dimenticare la Grande Guerra: il rilievo della Casa madre dei Mutilati a Roma

Between the Palace of Justice and the equally imposing Castel S. Angelo a very unobtrusive building stands along the banks of the Tiber in Rome: the Mother House of the Disabled and Invalids of War designed by Marcello Piacentini. Although ‘small’ in size, its elegant architecture, sophisticated ornamentation and the many artworks housed inside make it an important strongbox testifying to the Great War. The scope of the integrated survey was to not only document the building exactly one hundred years after the outbreak of the First World War but also save it from the oblivion into which it has fallen.

C’è un edificio a Roma, sul Lungotevere, che quasi si sottrae alla vista, perché compresso tra il Palazzo di Giustizia e l’altrettanto imponente mole di Castel S.Angelo: è la Casa Madre dei Mutilati ed Invalidi di Guerra di Marcello Piacentini che, pur nelle sue “ridotte” dimensioni, si dimostra essere, per l’eleganza della sua architettura, per la raffinatezza delle decorazioni e per la ricchezza delle opere d’arte che vi sono contenute, un prezioso scrigno testimone della Grande Storia. Il rilievo, effettuato con tecniche integrate, mira a documentare quest’opera, in concomitanza con il centenario dello scoppio della Grande Guerra, facendola uscire dall’oblio in cui è sprofondata.
