The Authors present a brief review about the problems related to the sterilization of healthcare materials by means of gas plasma. Information about this technology is given and the characteristics of the Sterrad and AbTox apparatus are described. After review of the italian and international scientific data the sterilization efficacy of these two systems is evaluated together with the work conditions. Finally the advantages and disadvantages of the two gas plasma apparatus are discussed.
