This paper aims to create a geographical database in Open-Source GIS environment managing the various environmental items that are institutional authority of the Metropolitan City of Rome Capital, a public local agency, called "Amministrazione Provinciale di Roma" till January 2015. There are many and different categories of geo-referenceable information that a department of environmental protection may need to store and query. Such a mass of data requires automation of the records digitalization and their timely control: for example, it has to be thought that only the water wells are tens of thousands records. For this reason, a series of routines have been developed, some of them completely new, other already existing ones updated and adapted to this specific project. The whole work was developed in open source environment, using the geodetic datum WGS84-ETRF2000 (EPSG code: 6708), now required by current national regulations. Queries of this database, will be made by staff members up to final users in observance of specific privacy constraints. Those tasks will be managed through an open source web-GIS system open to further developments and modifications.
