This paper proposes a rereading of Barthes’ notion of readerly, defined in 1970, in S/Z. The purpose will be to analyze its birth, resorting to the notes from the seminar on Sarrasine, held by Barthes in the École pratique des hautes études from 1967 to 1969, as well as to reevaluate this often challenged notion, to show it presides over Barthes’ rewriting of Sarrasine. Our final hypothesis is that S/Z is a readerly text, in a mimetic relationship – perhaps despite itself – with the object of analysis.

Abstract
This paper proposes a rereading of Barthes’ notion of readerly, defined in 1970, in S/Z. The purpose will be to analyze its birth, resorting to the notes from the seminar on Sarrasine, held by Barthes in the École pratique des hautes études from 1967 to 1969, as well as to reevaluate this often challenged notion, to show it presides over Barthes’ rewriting of Sarrasine. Our final hypothesis is that S/Z is a readerly text, in a mimetic relationship – perhaps despite itself – with the object of analysis.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
