In this essay the Author presents the letters Antonio Banfi wrote to Giovanni Gentile which are kept in the Archives at the Fondazione Giovanni Gentile. Sent to Gentile over a span of time between 1920 and 1942, the letters allow us to retrace Banfi's biographical and philosophical path. They also make it possible to clarify the relationship – until now neglected – between two of the major figures in twentieth-century Italian philosophy.
