This article analyzes the new Italian strategy to face migratory pressures at the external borders. While it highlights the hotspot approach shortcomings, this article also addesses the three main challenges of this new proposal: redistributing migrants in every Italian region, strengthening international relations with key third countries and encouraging the externalization of border management through law-enforcement cooperation.
