Suggestion of Informed consent in Periodontology

This article has a double aim: on one hand, offer to patients a support to the comprehention of the importance of periodontal disease and on the other hand, offer to the specialists an appropriate support. A letterature revision reveals an important elements: it's just the absence of a specific protocol in the field of periodontology, or at least of a detailed plan that could be used as a "model" for every single case, that has determined the lack of an informed consent in periodontology. With this work we try to provide a "model" of consent focalizing our attention on information , or rather, on why the informed consent is necessary in periodontology, on the kind of knowledge we should give to the patient regarding the different kind of operations, on the necessary indications and contraindications, on the immediate ad late complications, on the risks and the istruction the patient should follow before and after the treatment.
