The monographic issue of the Metamorfosi magazine on 'Oscar Niemeyer. Memoriali ', curated by Nicoletta Trasi, represents a collection of contributions (by various Iralian and foreign scholars) related to the theme of the Brazilian Maestro's political and social commitment. This monographic issue also represents the catalog of the homonymous exhibition, curated by N.Trasi, held at the Brazilian Embassy in Rome, with the patronage of the Fundaçao Niemeyer of Rio de Janeiro, the Brazilian Government, Sapienza, CNA, the Order of the architects of Rome, of the House of Architecture. For the first time in Italy (and also in Europe) a relevant initiative is organized after the death of Niemeyer and in homage to the Maestro, the curator N.Trasi decides to present the lesser known, but no less interesting, part of the vast production of the Maestro Brazilian: his memorials of political and social protest, which he himself indicated, in an interview that N.Trasi gave him for the centenary celebrations (published in N.Trasi, Oscar Niemeyer. Permanence et invention. Editions du Moniteur, Paris) as the least known aspect of his work, but considered by him the most important. The volume also collects the iconographic materials of the Exhibition, or rather unpublished sketches and for the first time extracted from the Archive of the Fundaçao O.N. of Rio de Janeiro, as well as of photographs commissioned ad hoc and agreed with the architect Leonardo Finotti, photographer recognized as the referent of Niemeyer's work. It should be noted that the Fundaçao O.N. expressed the desire to bring the materials of the exhibition to Brasilia in the Niemeyer Permanent Museum (under construction) and of which this exhibition on the Memorials will be a Section. It should also be noted that this volume of Metamorphosis, in Italian and English, is being translated into Portuguese, specifically for the Permanent Museum.
