In Pavel Muratov's Obrazy Italii (1911-1912, I edition), genre is a complex issue. The author's strong subjectivity in choosing «images» of Italy, and his outpourings suggest that the genre's specifics might be traced back to the literary tradition of autobiographism. The annexation of Rome to the Kingdom of Italy (1870) marked the beginning of a process that was destined to change permanently the character of the city, and be reflected in its identity. Muratov’s image of Rome at the beginning of the 20th century shows the author’s original point of view in addressing the topos of the city, as well as his tendency to see the Italian capital as part of his own existential path. In his outpourings, precise and stern albeit emotional, the autobiographical thread is intertwined with his outstanding erudition, his talent for writing, his «infectious vitality» and, ultimately, a prophetic view of the unfolding of the «spirit of Rome».
П. Mуратова (1911-1912; I изд.)

Abstract
In his outpourings, precise and stern albeit emotional, the autobiographical thread is intertwined with his outstanding erudition, his talent for writing, his «infectious vitality» and, ultimately, a prophetic view of the unfolding of the «spirit of Rome».File | Dimensione | Formato | |
