Reporting from the front: XV Biennale Di Architettura Di Venezia - Reporting from the front: 15. International Architecture Exhibition

The article provides an analysis of the 2016 Biennale of Architecture in Venice (or 15. International Architecture Exhibition), investigating on the one hand the issues raised by the curator, and on the other hand the possible solutions proposed by the participants regarding an architecture which is also asked to play a social role. In particular, the 2016 Biennale, curated by Prizker Prize Alejandro Aravena, is named “Reporting from the front”, particularly interesting theme chosen in order to investigate whether and when we can see examples of an architecture which innovates in terms of environmental, economic and social sustainability. In order to get this point, the article sets the basis for a reflection looking at both the differences from previous editions, both the main purpose of the exhibition, that is giving attention to social housing with the challenge of creating “quality architecture” in presence of scarcity of resources, environmental and logistical difficulties, including lack of housing and recovery of spaces at the border of the city.

L'articolo presenta un'analisi della Biennale di Architettura di Venezia 2016 (o 15.Mostra Internazionale di Architettura), indagando da una parte le questioni sollevate dal curatore e dall'altra le soluzioni possibili proposte dai partecipanti relativamente ad una architettura chiamata a rispondere ad un ruolo sociale. In particolare, la Biennale 2016, curata dal Premio Pritzker Alejandro Aravena, prende il nome di "Reporting from the front", tema particolarmente interessante in quanto si pone l'obiettivo di investigare se e dove vi sono fenomeni che mostrano una architettura tendente al rinnovamento in termini di sostenibilità ambientale, economica e sociale. Con lo scopo di cogliere questi aspetti, l'articolo pone le basi per una riflessione rivolta sia alle differenze rispetto alle edizioni precedenti, sia alla finalità principe della mostra, quella di volgere lo sguardo verso un'edilizia sociale sostenibile, con la sfida di creare un'architettura di qualità a fronte di scarsità di mezzi, difficoltà ambientali e logistiche, tra carenze di alloggi e recupero di spazi al limite delle città.
