Knowledge and Classification for the Interactive Dissemination of Chorizo Houses in Argentina

The topic dealt with in this contribution is part of an effort to gather knowledge in order to enhance Architectural Heritage in Argentina, influenced by Italian immigration between the late nineteenth and early twentieth century. It highlights the problems associated with the census, classification and, above all, interactive dissemination of an urban building type in the city of La Plata: the Chorizo House. At a time of increased social mobility, the flexibility of this housing type made it possible to absorb the population growth. Several examples of this interesting cultural heritage have survived intact while others have been radically altered; some of them are currently for sale and are considered an endangered heritage. The aim of this study was to retrace the history of the Chorizo House and disseminate the results. A digital archive (ADCCA_LP) was created with drawings, photographs and historical material: a useful tool to grant easy access to the study by both scholars of this topic and the more general public.
