Architetture per la sociale - Architecture for social needs

Over the years more and more students on the basis of agreements signed by the Faculty of Architecture, Sapienza University of Rome with the Faculty of the South of the world, go on site to carry out the final degree thesis or take part in workshops that address design topic which are of concern of those countries. These project topics are not traditionally developed during their training, and so the thesis and workshops become a life experience, a study and a design that introduce students to the knowledge of other regional contexts and encourage them to develop other methods to identify priorities and needs. This phase of research and study is carried out in loco, in collaboration with the colleagues of the partner universities, as well as the choice of the theme of the project, that is selected in situ to be developed later in Italy. The project, when completed, is returned to the Partner Faculty. The projects concern architectures that respond to social needs and the social health of a given community, such as housing units, social and healthcare centers, small hospitals, centers for artisan work, centers for the recovery of waste materials, regeneration of open spaces, markets, etc. Particular attention is paid to technological choices, to the use of local materials and to the possibility of involving, when possible, local populations in the design process and in construction. As a matter of fact, some projects led to self-construction manuals.

Negli anni sono sempre più numerosi gli studentiche sulla base di accordi stipulati dalla Facoltà di Architettura, Sapienza Università di Romacon le Facoltà diPaesidel Sud del mondo,si recano in loco per svolgere la tesi di laurea finale o partecipano a workshop che affrontano temi progettuali propri di questi Paesi. Temi di progetto che non vengono tradizionalmente sviluppati nel percorso formativo e così le tesi di laurea ed i workshop, diventano un’esperienza di vita, di studio e di progettazione che avvicina gli studenti alla conoscenza di altri contesti e li stimola a sviluppare altri metodiper identificare le priorità e i bisogni.La parte di ricerca e studio viene svolta sul campo, in collaborazione con i colleghi delle università Partner, così come la scelta del tema di progetto, successivamente sviluppato in Italia.Il progetto, una volta completato, viene restituito alla FacoltàPartner. I progetti riguardano architetture che rispondono ai bisogni sociali e socio-sanitari di una data comunità, come ad esempio moduli abitativi, centri socio-sanitari, piccoli ospedali, centri per il lavoro artigianale, centri per il recupero dei materiali di scarto, riqualificazione degli spazi aperti, mercati, ecc. Particolare attenzione è rivolta alle scelte tecnologiche, all’uso di materiali locali e alla possibilità di coinvolgere, quando possibile, la popolazione nel processo progettuale e realizzativo.Alcuni progetti si concludono, infatti, con i manuali di autocostruzione.
