The concept of type has always played a role in the construction of the shapes of the world, as well as in the processes of knowledge of the humankind. One of the first attempts of typization accomplished by unusual combinations can be considered the room of wonders in the Reinassence. This can be considered as a process of accumulation, collection and approach of objects, images and texts opening to a form of complex knowledge on the world, so to stimulate a lateral and creative vision. While collecting and relocating together things with a different character, the Wunderkammer explores the concept of type as any other design studio or lab, without standing at the cristallization of an abstract and timeless form, rather it becomes an open and live matter, where the technological and cultural process is a driver for innovation and change. Therefore, the technological nature and the process of transformation perform an important role in defining the type and forms through the cognitive models associated with it: the typological configuration is always an ongoing plastic phenomenon without any pure nor abstract areas, rather a combination of complex factors, details, properties, gestures, techniques, materials. The capture of the form in a type is therefore a dynamic process that is part of the society and the technological progress in a plural and open way through manipulation, weddings, hybridizations, abortions, conflicts. While describing the complexity of the process of fabrication of a brick, which seems apparently a simple shape, Simondon explains how the process of modelization becomes a cultural phenomenon because the product is leaving the author while defining a shape that can be repeated and shared (Simondon, 1964). Once again, it is the technological evolution to accelerate the process of ‘typification’ and sharing, facilitating the opening of the 'code' from the authorial form, to allow continuously the defunctionalization and the refunctionalization in new contexts and eventually breaking the original copyright. If the collector of the late Renaissance was building the knowledge about the world while collecting objects in order to understand their subtle differences and similarities, the designer is discovering the network of fine red threads weaving among the world's most diverse forms, to extrapolate their common profile and repeat it again with a difference, which is the same difference that the hacker captures to change the rules of the game and to continue the story of the modelization of the world. The three characters, the collector, the designer and the hacker share the same passion to capture forms and to adopt a creative approach finalized to the construction of knowledge. All three work on disassembling and assembling back again the primary elements in order to unveil the process. Equally, they build things with a dynamic vision of a possible world that can and probably will come. The type is not a hard and close crystal, but an open software to writing and innovation.
